A restored 16th century village house near the Abbey in the medieval village of Caunes Minervois in the Languedoc region (Southwest France). Close to the mountains and the sea. The house sleeps 6 guests in 3 bedrooms.
Caunes Minervois is 20km or 12 miles (SE) from Carcassonne (airport) and 70km or 56 miles (NW) from Toulouse (airport)

The house, close to Caunes Abbey, dates from the 16th Century, and has been lovingly restored. The house is three story's tall and is traditional in design (thick walls, high beamed ceilings, and shuttered windows).
Entry on the ground level is into a hallway with utility room (washing machine, sink), separate WC, and a large wine cave.
Kitchen
Stairs go up to the first floor level, with a large modern kitchen with a dishwasher, microwave, telephone, and plenty of counter space. There is a fireplace, as well as a dining table with chairs to seat 6.
From the kitchen, French doors lead out to a garden courtyard, with table to sit 6, with sun parasol, and charcoal barbecue. The courtyard is a perfect place for dining, or enjoying lazing in the sun.
Up a few steps from the kitchen is a large living room, with a couple of easy chairs, a fireplace, a desk, a table to sit 4, a couch and an armoire. There is also a CD stereo system. Windows look out onto the courtyard.
Twin bedroom
Stairs go up to the second floor hallway. Here there are 3 bedrooms - a bedroom with large double bed (king sized), a bedroom with double bed, and a bedroom with 2 single beds. There are 2 bathrooms. One has a shower, bidet, WC, and washbasin with a glass door leading to a large covered balcony, with a little café table and 2 chairs. The other bathroom has a bathtub, WC, and washbasin.
There is central heating.

Caunes Abbey
CAUNES AND SURROUNDING AREA
Caunes Minervois is situated in the vineyards of the Aude Valley at the base of the Montagne Noire, 50 minutes from the Mediterranean Sea. Caunes was once a walled medieval village and the town has has managed to retain its historical architectural beauty without becoming touristy. Its 7th century Abbey is in the center of the village and close to the house. The village has all of the amenities: grocery stores, a prize-winning butcher, charcuterie, bakeries, pharmacy, café -bars, restaurants, as well as tennis courts. There is a municipal swimming pool 5 minutes drive in a neighboring village.
The medieval fortified city of Carcassonne, with its colorful market thrice-weekly, and nearby golf course is a mere 15 minute drive and well serviced by the local bus system. The seemingly endless coastal Mediterranean beaches, near the lively towns of Beziers (Feria in August, Cathedral, Canal du Midi) and Narbonne (Cathedral, Roman ruins, Market) are 50 minutes drive. There is also easy access to lakes and rivers for swimming.
Other nearby (within 10kms) attractions include: horseback riding, hiking, wine tasting, and antique shopping. It is also possible to visit historical sites very close to Caunes, such as the Chateau of Lastours, and an interesting marble quarry, to name but a few.
ACCESS
International airports are close and easily accessed: Carcassonne (25 mins), Montpellier, Toulouse and Perpignan (90 mins), Nimes (120 mins), and Barcelona (4 hrs). There is a railway station at Narbonne with connections to Toulouse and Narbonne with TGV trains to Paris. Car rentals are available at both railway stations and the airports.

$ US Dollar value€ (Euro) and £ (pound) prices are approximate; rental costs are based on the € (Euro) value. Rental is Saturday to Saturday. The base weekly rate includes the services of a house manager, linens, and towels - supplemental fees may be charged to larger parties. The house manager collects a damage deposit in cash when guests arrive of $100 or the equivalent amount in Euros. No pets allowed.
