THE HOUSE The estate is entered via a metal gate, and a road with extensive views of the terraced hillsides, and the azur Meditteranean sea, where blue touches blue. To one side in the ruins of the earlier farmhouse, a herb garden has been planted between dry stone walls. There is a large parking area. As one walks to the house, on the sea side, lush green lawns terrace down with wooden tables and chairs under a magnificent tree. On the lower terrace a natural clear water spring provides the source for irrigation and the house. ![]() View from master bedroom - Larger photo To the front of the house, a door opens into an entrance hall/ dining room with corner fireplace, with a door into a large kitchen with white walls, ample work surfaces, and a table to seat 8. The kitchen is very well equipped with a 6 burner gas stove, a double sink, and 2 American size refrigerators. An exterior door opens onto a back terrace, and a series of storage units that house a washing machine and tumble dryer, a washing line for drying clothes, and other items for the terrace and garden. At the end of the back terrace is a large barbecue area providing easy access to the side and front terrace, where sun beds, and lawn chairs and tables are found in abundance, with wicker awnings providing shade from the bright Mediterranean sun. There is a fabulous reasonably private outside shower, set between terrace walls, affording splendid views of the sea. From the kitchen, doors enter on the central hallway with stairway, with a small bathroom (with WC, washbasin and shower) to one side A door leads into a large salon, with on one level 2 comfortable couches, which are on each side of a large coffee table, with on the back wall side a large open fireplace. There is a stereo CD player. Opposite to this, steps go down to the lower salon with on each side beds/couches (2), and at the bottom glass doors that open out onto the front terrace. Another door exits to the side terrace. Stairs from the central hallway go to a landing, with access left and right to the bedrooms. To the right a study bedroom with fireplace, has an independent entrance access by an exterior stone staircase. A door from the study bedroom enters a bedroom with a king-size bed (made up of 2 singles that can be moved apart) with a corner washbasin. Another door opens into a shared bathroom complete with double washbasin, separate WC, bathtub, and steam shower room. Access to the bathroom is shared with the master bedroom which stretches the width of the house, and is also accessed from the landing and stairway. The master bedroom (approx. 10 m x 8 m), includes on the back wall a extra large king size bed, which looks onto 3 stone capped arches, that open onto a balcony view room with central wood burning fireplace, and windows with exceptional views of the Mediterranean and surrounding National Park. The ceilings are wood beamed, and are high and slanted. There is a television with CD player. |

ABOUT
CADAQUES AND THE AREA Belleza Salvaje is situated 30 minutes walk from the town (15 minutes by car), and has extensive views of the Cadaquez coast. Cadaques is about 1 hour drive from the French border, and is the ideal place to visit to capture the exuberance of Catalonia and the Spanish spirit of life. It is magnificently located on the Cap de Creus, with tremendous panoramic views that inspired great artists from Picasso to Dali. There are numerous festivals throughout the year - JANUARY - the Birth of the Sun Festival - with traditional dancing; and a traditional procession to St Sebastian's chapel; FEBRUARY - Carnival; APRIL - a food and cooking festival; JUNE - celebration on the eve of St John; JULY - Our Lady of Carmen - boat processions - sardanes (dancing); AUGUST - Festival of Cadaques; SEPTEMBER - Summer Festival; DECEMBER - Winter Festival with mountain bike treks, dances, sporting events. And all year on the last Sunday of the month there is an Antique fair. There are almost 40 restaurants to enjoy sea food at its best; as well as shops, numerous art galleries, and museums (Municipal Art Museum, Peirrot More Art Center, The Dali Museum - where Dali lived). Water sports, scuba diving and numerous other activities are to be found, with golf, rock climbing, fishing, cycling, all within access. Nearby there are natural wonders of the Cap de Creus National Park, with the lovely monastery of Saint Pere de Rodes; or visit the Marshes of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park. Dali has a large and entertaining museum in Figueres, in an old theatre - that has been modified like only a surrealist knows how. For the more enterprising Barcelona is not too far away and makes an excellent day or weekend excursion, to visit the myriad of shops, restaurants, night clubs, art museums and galleries as well as the outstanding architecture of Gaudi - the Cathedral. For those seeking skiing can be found in the valleys and mountain sides of the Pyrenees in Catalonia resorts at Masella, La Molina and Nuria. To the north taking the coast road one reaches France and the delights of Collioure, Banyuls (home of Maillol), and one or two day trips can go as far as Carcassonne, Perpignan and Montpellier. ACCESS International airports are at Gerona, Barcelona, and to the north Perpignan (France). Railway stations are at Figeures and Llanca. |
