Rent a boat and enjoy boating on the UNESCO world heritage site Canal du Midi & Canal du Rhone near the bustling town of Beziers, with its well known Feria during the Summer, its towering Cathedral, and its Locks on the Canal du Midi. Pick up your boat at our port at Colombiers, right under a ruined Greek then Roman hill top town - Oppidum d'Enserune, still open to visitors; and next to the geographic wonder of the Etang de Montady - a dartboard irrigation scheme engineered during medieval times. Colombiers is an attractive village, with restaurants, and frequent flea markets (vide greniers) that are full of bargains to be had. Start your boat cruise by taking the Malpas tunnel, that Riquet had hewn out of the hillside for the Canal du Midi, in the direction of the cathar famous medieval castle walled city of Carcassonne, taking in the Roman capital of Narbonne, with the sandy Mediterranean beaches near Port La Nouvelle; alternatively take a one way trip to Montpellier at Carnon via the famou Ecluses de Fonseranes at Beziers and continue on via Agde, with its black fortress church, close to the naturist resort of Cap d'Agde. Then onto Marseillan, fishing village with pretty port side restaurants, crossing the inland lake of the Etang de Thau, to Sete, a thriving sea port, with Venetian style joisting and open air concerts during the Summer months. Then on via the Cathedral of Maguelone, towards Carnon near Montpellier, where you can end your cruise, or if you have time discover the Camargue from the historic towns of Beaucaire, Saint Gilles, and Aigues Mortes in the glorious nature and parks of the Rhone delta, with pink flamingos, white horses, and black bulls, as well as the endless sandy beaches near Grande Motte. |
