Off the hall is a large blue-tiled bathroom with a large bathtub, WC, and washbasin. Also there is a washing machine and dryer. Off the sitting-room is a bedroom with a single bed which can be pulled out into a double. The room has split bend and oval pear wood table and has the air of a Captain's cabin. Upstairs - Ascending the stairs brings you into a baronial-style sitting room with crystal chandeliers, Indian tapestries, and a round sofa. Two bedrooms and a bathroom open off this room. ![]() Bedroom One bedroom offers a lavish bedstead with decorative fireplace, Indian paintings, a tapestry, chest space and a very comfortable double bed. The second bedroom has a lovely view of the church, two large built-in closets, and two single beds. The bathroom upstairs has a "sit bath and/or shower" with WC, and washbasin. The cloister garden is shaded by a fig tree and has ivy growing up all the walls as well as a good selection of flowers and herbs growing in numerous pots and a wrought iron stone-topped table with a stone bench. View of Church and sea from terrace Going through the garden, you go upstairs to the terrace. This has a commanding view of the church and the sea. It has a thatch roof which shades half the space. It offers a marble-topped long bar, a marble-topped dining table, a hibachi grill and a round barbecue. There are folding soft lounge chairs and a stone bench which seats six. The terrace is equipped with cushions for stone bench. CADAQUES Cadaques is about 1 hour drive from the French border, and 2 hours from Barcelona, and is the ideal place to visit to capture the exuberance of Catalonia and the Spanish spirit of life. It is magnificently located on the Cap de Creus, with tremendous panoramic views that inspired great artists from Picasso to Dali. There are numerous festivals throughout the year - JANUARY - the Birth of the Sun Festival - with traditional dancing; and a traditional procession to St Sebastian's chapel; FEBRUARY - Carnival; APRIL - a food and cooking festival; JUNE - celebration on the eve of St John; JULY - Our Lady of Carmen - boat processions - sardanes (dancing); AUGUST - Festival of Cadaques; SEPTEMBER - Summer Festival; DECEMBER - Winter Festival with mountain bike treks, dances, sporting events. And all year on the last Sunday of the month there is an Antique fair. There are almost 40 restaurants to enjoy sea food at its best; as well as shops, numerous art galleries, and museums (Municipal Art Museum, Peirrot More Art Center, The Dali Museum - where Dali lived). Water sports, scuba diving and numerous other activities are to be found, with golf, rock climbing, fishing, cycling, all within access. Nearby there are natural wonders of the Cap de Creus National Park, with the lovely monastery of Saint Pere de Rodes; or visit the Marshes of the Aiguamolls de l'Empordà Natural Park. Dali has a large and entertaining museum in Figueres, in an old theatre - that has been modified like only a surreallist knows how. For the more enterprising Barcelona is not too far away and makes an excellent day or weekend excursion, to visit the myriad of shops, restaurants, night clubs, art museums and galleries as well as the outstanding architecture of Gaudi - the Cathedral. For those seeking skiing can be found in the valleys and mountain sides of the Pyrenees in Catalonia resorts at Masella, La Molina and Nuria. To the north taking the coast road one reaches France and the delights of Collioure, Banyuls (home of Maillol), and one or two day trips can go as far as Carcassonne, Perpignan and Montpellier. ACCESS International airports are at Girona, Barcelona, and to the north Perpignan (France). Railway stations are at Figeures and Llanca. |
