ABOUT THE AREA

The Charente department is part of the current region of Poitou-Charentes. It is well known for Cognac, made from the blend of wines, at the center of the pretty villages with Romanesque churches of River Charente, where you can visit Cognac town for distillery tours; close by too is Jarnac, birthplace of Mitterand; and Angouleme, cathedral and comic strip centre, that towers above the surrounding Charente region.
