Enjoy renting this superb chateau, between Toulouse and Carcassonne, surrounded by the hills of the Lauragais and the Montagne Noire. The house is immaculately decorated, with loving care by the owners, and has a large park, with a lawn that surrounds a lovely swimming pool, with a large pool house and sauna
ENTRANCE AND GARDEN The house is secluded, and private, reached by a small country road, which is 20 minutes from the auto route. Entry is via imposing metal gates, into a driveway that runs down the side of the chateau. There is ample parking. THE CHATEAU AND ACCOMMODATION Entry is into a hallway that stretches the length of the house. To the immediate left is the kitchen, fully equipped with 4 ring gas cooker, microwave, refrigerator, double sink, dishwasher, and washing machine. There is a dining table to seat 6. Across the hallway is the dining room, with a table to sit 10 persons. Walking down the hallway, to the left, under the stairs is a separate WC, with washbasin. And further to the left is the study bedroom with double bed. Opposite this on the other side of the hallway is a large living room with five tall windows, on 2 sides, around numerous easy chairs, couches, with an open fireplace. The stairs go up to the first floor landing and hall. Where there are 4 bedrooms all accessed off the central hallway. There is the "blue bedroom" with a hessian floor carpet, double bed, and desk. There is the master suite with small entrance hall, with doors to - a dressing room with closet storage; - a bathroom with shower, bathtub with shower attachment, 2 washbasins; - the bedroom with double bed, with windows with lovely views overlooking the lawn running down to the swimming pool. Yellow Bedroom Further down the hall is the "Yellow bedroom" with double bed, desk, closet with en suite bathroom with bath with shower attachment, 2 washbasins, and bidet. Also off the hallway is another double bedroom, with en-suite bathroom with bathtub and washbasin. There also is a separate WC accessible from the hallway. Outside, leaving there is a door at the opposite end of the hallway to the entrance opening onto a flat open area, where there is outside lawn furniture, with table and chairs, ideal for dining. From here, the lawns sweeps down a slight incline, to a large curved swimming pool, and 2 pool houses, one with the necessary furniture for dining outside, with barbecue, and sliding glass doors, with doors to a changing room with shower, washbasin, and WC. Nearby villages include St Felix Lauragais, notable for its covered market, 14th century church, and picturesque streets huddled within old castle walls - and here there is an excellent restaurant - Auberge du Poids Public - where well known politicians go out of their way to dine. For those seeking water sports and bathing - Lake Saint Ferreol has features to please all. Nearby is Revel - renowned for furniture making - where you can visit workshops, whilst looking at the medieval arcades in the center of the town. To the north west is Lavaur - with its grand Gothic cathedral with flamboyant entrance, brick houses, fountains, squares is charming. A little further is Gaillac - famed for its wines for centuries, perched over the river Tarn, with the Abbey of St Michel. Of course to the North is Albi - marvelous for a one day visit - you must visit the Toulouse Lautrec exhibition - in the former bishops palace; as well as the brick cathedral with its marvelous 15th century fresco of the Last Judgment. To the north east is Castres - a busy town that boasts a Goya museum. Close are the strange landscapes of Sidobre in the Lacaune region - huge granite rocks and boulders seemingly strewn haphazardly over the landscape. Also close too is what once in the 17th century was the largest school in France - the Abbey School of Sorèze. To the south is Villefranche-de-Lauragais well known for its restaurants that feature the regional dish - "Cassoulet" and close by too is the Canal du Midi, a national and UNESCO heritage site, that stretches from Toulouse to the Mediterranean - a beautiful stretch of water, excellent for boating on, or walking/cycling along its tow paths. Its only 45 minutes drive to Carcassonne with its Medieval castle and Cité, and another hour to the endless beaches of the Mediterranean stretching all along the coast from the Pyrenees to the Camargue. For those seeking serious shopping and night life - Toulouse is only 30 minutes drive. ACCESS There are international connections by air to both Carcassonne (45 mins) and Toulouse (30 mins) where car hire facilities are available. Other international airports are Montpellier (2h10mins), Perpignan (1h50mins), and Barcelona (Spain)(3h50mins). There are TGV connections by rail to Toulouse (3 hrs to Paris).
