QUARANTE

A friendly and pleasant village stretching along the ridge of a plateau, amid attractive countryside. At certain times of the day Quarante can seem positively bustly, at others as quiet as a ghost town.

As stated before, the village boasts a rather pretty church - one of the oldest in the region. It also is quite well served for small shops, offering a bakers, two butchers, two grocers shops, a chemist, a tabac and tobacconist, a post office, a bank, two cafés, and, slightly out of town, a restaurant.

No self-respecting village around here would be without a wine cave, and Quarante is no exception. Indeed, our local cave, open daily, is quite a local attraction as it offers permanently changing art exhibitions, a wine museum, a permanent bee and honey exhibition, as well as an excellent selection of bottled, boxed and "loose" local wines. Quarante is host to twice weekly, small out door markets. For a supermarket shop one needs to travel 7 km to Capestang where there is a good supermarket.

ACCESS

Quarante is about half an hours drive from the middle-sized towns of Beziers and Narbonne, where there are main TGV train stations, plus all the main car-hire companies. Ryan air do very competitively priced flights from Stanstead to Carcassonne and Perpignan, both of which are about 1 hours drive from Quarante, and there are also several car-hire companies to be found at these airports. Equally British Airways, Buzz and Air France do flights from London to Montpellier, about 1 hour 20 from Quarante. Toulouse and Barcelona are also within easy driving - 2-3 hours, and are perfect for international air flights coming from all over the world.
