Access is good, and the vineyards are well placed. Métairie des Joncs is the result of the hard work and passion of the owners. Region The vineyards altitude is approximately 300m; located around Fontjoncouse, on the slopes of the mountain Saint Victor in the Corbieres on the route of Cathar castles. Soil The grapevines are growing up on calc and clay soil surrounded by rocks, thyme and rosemary. Climate Mediterranean climate, with a higher humidity than other areas of this region because the mountain Saint Victor plays a part in obstructing the influence of the sea. Vineyard The vineyard currently comprises 16 hectares, including 4.5 hectares of young planted grapevines. 6 wells. There are also 2 hectares of fields. Varieties The mediterrean varieties are mainly from old Carignan (some are over 100 years old) and Syrah and Grenache. Certification 2000 : Métairie des Joncs officialy started the certification of Biological Agriculture 2003 : The third year of switching to Biological Agriculture certified by Ecocert and Nature & Progrès. 2004 : Started the ‘bio Suisse’, Swiss certification. Newer projects of 2004 - grape juice, grapejam, and wine vinegar and the Metairie des Joncs shop - a place to share culture, art and wine. The Matairie de Joncs shop is not for sale. Products include The ‘blanc’, hand crafted harvest, assisted by Goliath, a workhorse. The grapes are crushed with the use of a small authentic winepress. Which results in a typical white wine, frank, pure, twinkling and spicy. The ‘rosé’, AOC Corbières 2002, frank, pure and mineral. The ‘red’, AOC Corbières 2002, hand crafted Corbières based on full, wild, mineral and spicy Carignan grapes. The Wine Cave The wine cave is on the edge of the village of Fontjoncouse. The cave is well equipped, and has the additional advantage of entrance from the rear (which is at the level of the upper floor - which provides easier and more productive access during harvest time). There is a good sized space above the wine cave to create an apartment. Adjoining land is possibly available for purchase.
