On a hot day in August, dining out at lunch time requires a certain amount of astuteness. Shade is a necessity. But also one needs to feel the glories of nature - leafy trees, the sun sparkling through rustling leaves. Au Lavoir is ideally located overlooking the Canal du Midi, in a raised landscaped area, with lots of space to breathe, relax, and enjoy the fine cooking that is produced at this select dining experience. Bustling Beziers is a short drive away, as are a little further the golden sands of the Mediterranean. But back to food, dining, and let the world float by.

At lunch time only a few tables were taken, and i found a shady table with open views. Service was excellent, charming, and correct. Place settings and cutlery, and all the staging was as it should be. I took the 22 euros menu of entree and main dish of the day. Wine and coffee was extra. The buns of bread were fresh and warm. The rilletes and olives given as an amuse bouche to get the palate ready for the main acts.

For wine i had the excellent white Corbieres Chateaux Ollieux Romanis 2009 - an elixir of golden liquid, light sweet, rose, and fruity.

For entrée (photo above) i had a delicious tuna with wasabi aside, and ribbon of rocket and tomato salad with flakes of paremesan.

Dorade piquée au citron confit et jus de basilic
For the main plate(photo above) i had dorade freshly cooked over mashed potato with tomatoes aside. Simply presented. Fish flakey and moist. Everything as it should be

And true to form - the coffee was precise to the point and delicious. Nothing was taken for granted.
Delphine and Louis Louro have created a haven for serious diners who like imaginative dining.
