Restaurant Find of the Month (January 1997)

On a recent visit to Montpellier, searching for that perfect but reasonably priced mid-day meal I was pleasantly surprised and impressed by Restaurant le Puits St. Anne, just below the Eglise St Anne. This small restuarant, in a steep winding street, was intimate and pleasant. Me and my friend were guided to the last table in the cellar, down a steep circular staircase. Under the old arches, and in well furnished surroundings. It would be perfect for a romantic dinner or as our nieghbours realised for a small meeting of minds.

The waiter did wonders, running up and down the stairs, and with a full house, was always able to present food ably with care. We had the impossibly worth while 54FF menu of salad, a main course, a desert, with wine included. The salad was fresh, and balanced. The entree of lamb succulent, with sauces, and vegetables, arranged and cooked to finesse. Even my simple dessert of chocolate ice cream, was excellent.

Its a recommendation that I will give myself when I next visit Montpellier.
