cessenon sur orb, herault, languedoc

Cessenon-sur-Orb, is a charming village adjacent the dramatic river Orb, where nearby is a renowned center for canoeing and kayaking. At the center of the village the 14th century church, overlooks a large public square, often used for concerts in the Summer.

Nearby are bar and restaurants, where one can sit back and enjoy the local people and visitors in this intimate village.

Taking the road, opposite the church so one goes away from the river, there is a charming spring bordered by flowers, and higher up one reaches the 12th century tower that has commanding views over the river valley.

Sitting under the shade of the trees next to the tower, one looks across the new bridge that spans the river Orb, with camping ground, and a place to bathe, to the distant mountains of the Gorges d'Héric.

There are numerous walks in the region. Close by is the Romanesque Abbey of Fontcaude, as well as dolmens and statue menhirs, relics of the megalithic era.

For a nice refreshing swim the beaches of the Mediterranean are only about 20 minutes away by car, or you could try the river Orb at Roquebrun, the river Cesse at Bize or the public swimming pool in St Chinian.

Canoeing, kayaking, rock-climbing, fishing, cycling, painting, golf and riding are just a few of the other activities available.

If you want the excitement of larger cities Beziers is within easy reach, with its acclaimed festival in the Summer (includes bullfighting).
