Minerve, Cathar village, is at the center of the Minervois, Languedoc, South France
Minerve, is at the center of the Minervois region. A village with
a history of the Cathar siege from Simon de Montfort during the Albigensian
crusades - visit the museum "Musée Hurepel" (Open
April - Oct) where the story is told with the use of little figurines.
Eat in one of the restaurants in the village.
Take a walk along the
river bed of the Cesse, and follow it under the hill - under a natural
bridge.
Take a walk above the village to find the dolmens - magalithic
tombs - there are a number in the area (there is also a good museum
in village with some of the finds from the tombs).
Drink some of the
great potent complex red wines of the Minervois and Saint Chinian.
Smell in the scents
of the garrique - the thyme, the fennel, the rosemary ......
