Cypresses and Roses at Fontfroide
With Christmas almost upon us, these trees are splendidly regal and could make do as Mediterranean christmas trees. Though planted often as sentries around a cemetary they are spectacular giving views that special beauty of distinction and wonder
One can imagine just before Christmas this nun walking along the cloisters,
in an abbey in Languedoc. This wonderful piece of art is on one of the walls
in the Abbey at Fontfroide.
The castle at Villerouge-Termenes, in the Corbières is well worth a visit, with a fine multi-media display of the history of the Cathar religion, particularly Bélibaste, the last known Cathar priest in Languedoc, who was burnt alive here in 1321. This is one of the windows in the castle, with seating to appreciate the view.
