The week after Christmas, intrepid surfers took to the waves here where Betty Blue the movie was shot. The beach is a little ways out of Gruissan, an old town with a ruined castle on a knoll at its center. Gruissan Plage is known for its beach houses that are built on stilts, and it was in one of these that the hero and heroine of Betty Blue lived loved painted and went wild.
The Canal du Midi is perfect for a cycle ride, and last week had the perfect weather for it. Hot even in a t-shirt. Clear blue skies, and little wind. Trees in blossom, butterflies, and bees busy with budding Spring. There is many a canal boat moored along the canal, often lived in year round.
Wandering under a hot sun on April 4th through this lovely square in Agde, which is next to the river Herault, and looking up at Aphrodite, one harks back to when this town was a Greek outpost of the City of Marseille some 2500 years ago, and looks forward to the modern day aphrodites on the beaches at Cap d'Agde, which is close by.
